We will start the day by visiting the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, where over 85 elephants, ranging from little ones to adults, are cared for. These elephants have been found wounded or separated from their herd in the jungles, and are now being looked after at the orphanage. After spending some time with these magnificent animals, we will head to the nearby river for a refreshing bath at 10.00am. We will leave the orphanage at 10.45am and make our way to a tea factory enroute. At the tea factory, we will get a chance to witness the fascinating process of how tea is processed before it reaches our tables. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the history and culture of tea in Sri Lanka. |

We will be visiting some of the most incredible sights that Sri Lanka has to offer. Our first stop will be the Peradeniya Botanical Garden, a magnificent 57-hectare (147-acre) garden that was laid out in 1832 and is considered among the finest in the world. This river-girdled garden boasts a wide variety of tropical flora, including rare and endangered plant species, fine collections of orchids, aromatic spices, medicinal herbs, and palms. During World War II, the garden served as the operation headquarters of Supreme Allied Commander, Lord Louis Mountbatten, and was naturally camouflaged. We will visit a herbal & spice plantation en route, where you will have the opportunity to see various spices such as cinnamon, pepper, and nutmeg, for which Sri Lanka is renowned and was initially colonized by Portuguese, Dutch, and British. We will also visit a gem lapidary and museum to see how precious stones are mined, cut, polished, and engraved. Sri Lanka is famous for its sapphires of all colors, rubies, tourmalines, and many more, and Kandy is a great place to purchase gemstones. You will also have the chance to visit a Batik factory and watch the production of the artistic fabric. Our next stop will be Kandy, the old capital of Ceylon and the seat of the last Sinhalese kingdom. Kandy is a charming city with temples, an ancient artificial lake, and rolling hills covered by forests and tea plantations. The city is set in the mountainous area of the island, providing fantastic views over the city from some of the hotels. We will visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, the most sacred temple to the Buddhists in the world. Founded in the 16th century, this temple houses one of the most sacred relics of Buddhism – a tooth of Lord Buddha collected from his funeral pyre and protected in the Seven Golden Caskets within the gold-roofed temple of the tooth. Dear valued guest, We are delighted to announce that our tour will conclude in the evening, and we will return to the hotel.
