Habarana is a small village located in Anuradhapura district, where A6 Dambulla-Trincomalee road meets A11 Anuradhapura-Polonnaruwa road in the district of Anuradhapura nearly on the border of adjoining district of Polonnaruwa. Habarana's central location within the cultural triangle has made it one of the preferred bases of those who visit world heritage sites of Dambulla, Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa. Habarana is a popular tourist destination for safari lovers as well as Minneriya sanctuary which is heavily populated by elephants & Kaudulla national park. Elephant back riding is also an attraction in this small city. Although used as a base for the famous tourist destinations surrounding the village, Habarana, well set with its reservoir, rich in wildlife is an attraction in its own right: it's an ornithologist's paradise and nature lover's dream. The area has some of the best hotels in the country and the greenery and wild life has added value, making the location attractive for tourists. The population of the city is expected to be in the area of 10,000–15,000.
