Nuwara Eliya meaning "city on the plain (table land)" or "city of light", is a town in the central highlands of Sri Lanka with a picturesque landscape and temperate climate. It is located at an altitude of 1,868 m (6,128 ft) and is considered to be the most important location for Tea production in Sri Lanka. The town is overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka.
The city was founded by Samuel Baker, the discoverer of Lake Albert and the explorer of the Nile in 1846. Nuwara Eliya's climate lent itself to becoming the prime sanctuary of the British civil servants and planters in Ceylon. Nuwara Eliya, called Little England then, was also a hill country retreat where the British colonialists could immerse in their pastimes such as fox hunting, deer hunting, elephant hunting, polo, golf and cricket.
Although the town was founded in the 19th century by the British, the whole district is today visited by native travelers, especially during the month of April, the season of flowers, pony races, go cart races and auto rally.
Many of the buildings retain features from the colonial period such as the Queen's Cottage, General's House, Grand Hotel, Hill Club, Town Post Office and even new hotels are often built and furnished in the colonial style. Anyone who visits the city can wallow in its nostalgia of bygone days by visiting these landmark buildings. Many private homes still maintain their old English-style lawns and gardens. Visit Gregory’s park. It’s a beautiful place with lack of activities to do for children as well as you. Paddling boats, Pony rides and cycling available for reasonable rates. Superb weather for enjoying. Most of the rich Sri Lankans has a (Villa) holiday home there. This is ideal location for nature lovers.
NUWARAELIYA – KANDY (2.30 HOURS)

You can visit Peradeniya botanical garden enroute. After a garden continue to Kandy. Checking to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 12 – After breakfast visit Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. (Sri Dalada Maligawa)
Ever since it was founded in the 16th century, it has one of the most sacred relics of Buddhism – a tooth of the Buddha collected from his funeral pyre and which is now protected within the gold – roofed temple of the tooth. It was built within the Royal palace complex which houses the only surviving relic of Buddha, a tooth, which is venerated by Buddhists. The relic has played an important role in the local politics since ancient times; it’s believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country, which caused the ancient kings to protect it with great effort. Kandy was the capital of the Sinhalese kings from 1592 to 1815, fortified by the terrain of the mountains and the difficult approach. The city is a world heritage site declared by UNESCO in part due to the temple.
Then to have a guided Kandy city tour in Kandy. There is a local traditional dance performance which you will enjoy in the town in the late afternoon. End of the day return hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Sigiriya present a unique concentration of fifth- century urban planning, gardening, engineering, hydraulic technology and art. In 470 AD. Part hedonistic pleasure palace, part fortress and part sacred complex. Sigiriya is one of the island’s most awe- inspiring archaeological sites and leading tourist attraction, in fact some consider it to be one of the oldest tourist attractions in the world with early visitors recording their impressions as “Graffiti” on a wall described as the world’s first interactive book…… This area famous for “Ayurveda herbal massage” is done by well experienced therapists. No chemicals, only herbs. Inform me your interest. I will arrange it.
HABARANA – POLONNARUWA – SAFARI - HABARANA
Day 15 - After breakfast leave to visit Polonnaruwa.
Polonnaruwa located 45 km from Habarana was the islands second ancient capital. In 11th 13th AD, the medieval capital of Polonnaruwa was one of the great urban centres in South Asia. Today the well-preserved ruins give you the chance to experience the grandeur of this period and marvel at the artistry of the island’s early craftsmen. The great ruler King Parakramabahu 1st (1153-1186) reign was the highest peak of the agricultural development of the island with the subtitle of “Granary of the East” with the development of a vast and complex irrigation systems connected to “Sea of Parakramabahu”, the largest reservoir build in the history of Sri Lanka. At the heart of the ancient city are the remains of the Royal palace and Council chamber. Nearby is the Vatadage or “relic house”, a beautifully decorated circular structure with an uncanny resemblance to Stonehenge. Among the other sites are the Gal potha (stone book) – a 9m – long granite slab inscribed with the feats of a king – the Lankathilaka shrine and the supremely graceful Buddha statues at Gal Vihara, the pinnacle of Sri Lankan rock carving……
